Law firm website design and marketing for South African attorneys

A page for each kind of matter you take on is the core of our law firm website design, because people look for an attorney by the problem and the place: "divorce attorneys near me", "attorneys in bellville", "unfair dismissal ccma". We build the site, and the SEO that brings people to it, around those searches, with a Google Business Profile for each office.

Rule 18.22 of the Legal Practice Council's Code of Conduct treats paying for referrals as touting, which rules out most pay-per-lead schemes. So the enquiries have to come to you directly, from search, Maps and your own site, and everything we write follows the Code's rules on publicity.

2,241 South African law firms have between two and nine attorneys (LSSA statistics, 2026).

The LSSA puts the number of attorneys in South Africa at 35,541 (LSSA statistics, 2026).

What people type before they phone an attorney

When we checked Google's suggestions in October 2026, "protection order" brought up "protection order cape town" and "protection order application form", and "unfair dismissal" brought up "unfair dismissal ccma" and "unfair dismissal compensation". The person typing those is trying to understand a problem, and may not know yet that they need an attorney.

Then come the searches for a firm: "attorneys near me", "law firms in stellenbosch", "divorce attorneys near me". Those bring up a map of three firms above the results. The problem searches bring up articles, and sometimes an AI Overview above them, so a firm that answers the question plainly on its own site has a chance of being the one cited.

We plan pages by matter type, because a landlord with a tenant who won't pay and a company director looking for a commercial attorney use different words and decide at different speeds.

What we do for law firms

Law firm website design

A site with a page for each area you practise in, attorney profiles with admission details and practice areas, plain answers to what people ask before they phone, and a contact form that collects what you need for a conflict check. The domain, the site and the logins are in your name. We never hold back your domain, site or logins, even over an unpaid invoice.

A page for each matter

Divorce, maintenance, protection orders, unfair dismissal, deceased estates, evictions: a page for each matter you take on, explaining what happens, roughly how long it takes and what to bring to a first consultation.

A Business Profile for each office

Each office gets its own Google Business Profile, with practice areas listed as services and hours that match when someone answers the phone.

Copy written to the Code

Nothing that says you're better than other firms, no client named without their prior written consent, and no specialist label you can't support with qualifications or experience. Rules 7.2 and 8.1 of the LPC Code cover these.

How we charge

We charge a flat fee: monthly for SEO, once-off for a website. We never charge per enquiry, per consultation or per new mandate.

LPC rule 18.22 and the rules on publicity

Rule 18.22 of the Legal Practice Council's Code of Conduct says an attorney must not tout for professional work, and describes touting as procuring or soliciting work in an improper or unprofessional manner, or by unfair or unethical means. It says touting includes:

  • 18.22.1: paying money, or offering any financial reward or other inducement, directly or indirectly, to anyone in return for referring professional work
  • 18.22.2: taking part, directly or indirectly, in an arrangement or scheme that results in, or is calculated to result in, the attorney getting professional work solicited by a third party

That's the trouble with most pay-per-lead models: a third party finds the client and is paid for each referral. Rule 12.1, on sharing fees with non-attorneys who solicit work, ends by saying "this prohibition shall not in any way limit bona fide and proper marketing activities". If you're unsure about an arrangement, ask the LPC before you sign it.

Rule 7.2 covers publicity of every kind, and rule 7.1.1 includes electronic and social media. Publicity must not bring the profession into disrepute, misrepresent the service offered or claim to be better than another practitioner, and it can't name a client without the client's prior written consent, unless it relates only to selling or letting the client's property. Rule 8.1 lets you advertise as a specialist on the basis of specialised qualifications or experience, and the Council can order you to stop if it doesn't accept the claim.

Rule 7.3 says the responsibilities in rule 7.2 can't be delegated, so they stay with you even when we write the copy. You sign off everything before it goes live.

What the monthly report shows

Enquiries are split by matter type. A deceased estate and an unfair dismissal bring in different work and different fees, so each gets its own line.

Enquiries by matter

Calls, forms and WhatsApps for each practice area, split by where they came from.

Consultations and mandates

How many enquiries became first consultations, and how many of those became mandates, taken from your records.

Cost per mandate

What each new mandate cost, our fee and any ad spend included.

Enquiries you didn't want

Matters you don't take on, counted separately, so we can fix the page that attracted them.

Planned around the matters you want

  1. Step Month 1: Which matters, and which offices

We agree which matters you want more of and which you'd rather not hear about, then set up call tracking and form and WhatsApp logging, with last month's enquiries as the baseline. Each office's Business Profile gets rebuilt.

  2. Step Month 2: New site, or rewritten matter pages

A new website gets its design and page list agreed this month. If you're keeping the site you have, we rewrite the pages for your priority matters and the attorney profiles instead.

  3. Step Month 3: Plain answers for AI Overviews

We add plain answers to the questions people ask about your priority matters, which gives the firm a chance of being cited in an AI Overview. The month 3 report sets enquiries by matter type against the baseline, and counts the enquiries you didn't want.

What attorneys want to know

Rule 18.22 of the LPC Code of Conduct treats paying anyone in return for referring work as touting. A service that bills you for each lead it sends can look like payment per referral, so check any such scheme with the LPC before you sign. Paying for your own advertising, such as ads that send people to your own site, is a different arrangement: nobody is paid for referring the client to you.

Rule 8.1 lets you advertise a specialisation on the basis of specialised qualifications or experience. The Council can ask you to show good cause why you shouldn't be ordered to stop, and can order you to stop if it doesn't accept the claim. We write the claim around the qualifications and experience you can show.

Rule 7.2.6 says publicity can't refer to a client by name without the client's prior written consent. So a named quote needs the client's written consent on file before it goes on your site.
