SEO in Cape Town, suburb by suburb

Search "electrician Claremont" on a phone and Google usually puts a map and a short list of local businesses above the ordinary results. When we do SEO in Cape Town, getting you into that list for the areas you serve is where we start.

One thing to ask any SEO company in Cape Town is who will do the work. Kilter is based in Cape Town. You'll talk to the people doing the work. There's no account manager passing messages along. The work and every meeting happen online, on video calls and by email.

From R7,500 a month.

How local search works in Cape Town

Google's Business Profile help page, checked in October 2026, names three main factors in local results: relevance, distance and prominence. In a city as spread out as Cape Town, distance is the one that catches businesses out.

One address doesn't cover the city

Google defines distance as how far each business is from the person searching. Cape Town is wide enough for that to bite: a Business Profile in Claremont can do well for "plumber near me" searched in Rondebosch and not show for the same search in Durbanville. So the profile work goes into the areas closest to you, and area pages compete further out in the ordinary results.

Suburb searches and "near me"

Someone who knows the area they want might type "dentist Claremont", and someone who doesn't, "dentist near me". Google's help page says that when a searcher doesn't share where they are, Google uses what it knows about their location. It doesn't say how a suburb typed into the search changes that. So for each area you serve, we check where you show for both kinds of search.

Reviews and links

The same page describes prominence as how well known a business is, based partly on how many websites link to it and how many reviews it has, and says more reviews and positive ratings can help. Once you've chosen premises, your distance from customers is fixed. Reviews you can work on every week, by asking every customer for one.

Examples from around the city

What we'd do first for three kinds of business, each in a different part of the city.

A security company in Durbanville

Response companies sell by area, and a Business Profile does best with people searching near its own address. We'd add a page for each suburb the company responds in, with its response time there, and ask every new client for a review. Calls from Google Maps would get their own line in the report.

An accounting practice in Claremont

We'd build the service pages around what owners ask before they hire an accountant, such as when provisional tax is due, and test every contact form before anything else. The report would count the enquiries each page brings in.

A dental practice in Somerset West

Say the practice shows in the map pack in Somerset West but not in Strand, ten minutes away. We'd add a page for Strand patients with directions and parking, and ask for a review after every check-up. Each month the map grid would show whether it has started to appear for "dentist" searched in Strand.

Starting with a map of where you rank

  1. Step Month 1: A grid of map positions

Call tracking and form logging go in first, with a count of last month's enquiries. Then we check your map pack position from a grid of points across the areas you serve, so you can see where it drops off, and fix the Business Profile.

  2. Step Month 2: Area pages and reviews

A page for each part of Cape Town you work in, with the suburbs you cover, how to reach you and the questions people there ask. Review requests start going out after each job.

  3. Step Month 3: Local links and the first comparison

If your package includes link outreach, we go after links from community news sites, business chambers and suppliers you already deal with. The month 3 report sets enquiries by source and cost per enquiry against the baseline, repeats the map grid and lists what changes next month.

Our prices are on the site

Seven of the twelve South African agencies that rank most often on Google don't publish a pricing page. We'd rather you knew before we speak.

12 agencies checked across 19 searches, September 2026.

Questions about SEO in Cape Town

Not for the ordinary results under the map, where a good page for each area can rank without a branch. The map pack is different. Google's Business Profile guidelines, checked in October 2026, allow one profile per location where each has its own staff, and rule out a virtual office, meaning a rented address you don't work from.

Fixes to a Business Profile can show within a few weeks. Where plenty of businesses chase the same search, it can take months, and nothing we do changes your distance from the person searching. You can't pay Google for a better spot either: its Business Profile help page, checked in October 2026, says there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.

No. It starts at R7,500 a month, the same as anywhere else in South Africa. What changes is the mix: more area pages, and sometimes more than one Business Profile.

You don't have to. Our work all happens online, and an agency anywhere could do the same. Where being based in Cape Town helps is the local part: knowing that Bellville and Durbanville draw different customers changes which pages get written and which suburbs each one names.
